What is “travel” softball?

Travel softball has become somewhat of a loose term to basically mean not park district or in house. The amount of actual “travel” depends on how competitive the team wants to be and how much you want softball to encompass your life. There are travel teams that go out of state every weekend and there are travel teams that only play within 30 minutes of their home city. I intend for this program to be the latter

How much does travel softball cost?

There are several variables that dictate cost such as amount of games, competitiveness of teams and whether a coach is getting paid. At West Chicago Travel Softball we try to keep costs reasonable. Most of our teams cost around $500 to play for the year. Teams will conduct fundraising throughout the year to help with costs.

How many games do you play?

When you commit to a travel team, you commit to playing with one team for a year. You are roughly looking at 40-60 games for a year depending on the age

What are the different age brackets?

Unlike in park district, the age level you play in depends on how old your child is on Jan 1 of every year. Generally speaking, there is 8u, 10u, 12u, 14u, 16u and 18u. If you turned 11 on January 1 of 2020, you would be playing 12u during the year 2020. You can always play on an older team but you can’t play younger. The same 11-year-old player could play 12u, 14u etc. But she cannot play 10u

What does a typical travel season look like?

August-October – 10-15 games and practices 1-2 x a week

November-March – practices 1-2 x a week indoors

April-July – Practices 1-2 x a week and at least two weekends a month dedicated to tournaments, round robins (3 games in one day) or a double header.
